- Overview
This 10 day Morocco tour from Marrakech is a loop through the parts of the country most visitors hope to see: the High Atlas, the kasbah towns of the south, the Sahara dunes at Merzouga, the old medina of Fes, the blue town of Chefchaouen and the capital, Rabat. It starts and ends in Marrakech, so arrivals and departures are simple to plan.
It is planned as a private tour [CONFIRM WITH TOUR OPERATOR].
The first half heads south and east. You cross the Tizi n’Tichka pass, walk through the earthen village of Ait Ben Haddou, and drive on through Ouarzazate to Boumalne Dades and the Dades Valley. From there the road passes Todra Gorge and continues to Merzouga, where the Erg Chebbi dunes rise out of flat, stony desert.
Two nights in the Merzouga area make a real difference. With one night, you usually arrive late, see the dunes briefly and leave early the next morning. With two, the day in between belongs to the desert. You are not packing up, and you are not stuck in a vehicle for most of it. If you have been comparing a Marrakech Sahara desert tour with a longer trip across Morocco, this route covers both.
The second half turns north. Fes gets an extra full day, because its old medina is too large and too tangled to see well in one afternoon. Next come Chefchaouen in the Rif mountains and then Rabat, which is calmer, with a clifftop kasbah and royal monuments. Counting Marrakech, you see three of Morocco’s four imperial cities.
The route covers a lot of ground. On driving days, expect between 2 and 5 hours on the road. To keep the trip from feeling rushed, the longest leg, Merzouga to Fes, is split with an overnight stop in Midelt. That makes this Morocco tour from Marrakech a good fit for travelers who want mountains, desert and old cities in one trip and are comfortable spending part of most days in a vehicle.

- Itinerary
10 Days /09 Night
The day starts in Marrakech and ends in Ouarzazate, with Ait Ben Haddou in between. The road climbs into the High Atlas and crosses the Tizi n'Tichka pass, which reaches about 2,260 meters. It is a winding mountain road, and the scenery changes from green foothills to dry, red-brown valleys on the south side.
Ait Ben Haddou is the main stop. This fortified village of earthen buildings is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has appeared in many films. You can walk up through the ksar for views over the valley. A short drive then takes you on to Ouarzazate for the night.
Driving: about 4 to 4.5 hours in total, not counting stops.
Overnight: Ouarzazate.
This is a shorter driving day, which leaves time to stop along the way. The road east runs through Skoura, known for its palm grove and old kasbahs, and Kelaat M'Gouna, the center of the Valley of the Roses. This stretch is often called the road of a thousand kasbahs, and mud-brick kasbahs appear regularly along it.
Boumalne Dades marks the start of the Dades Valley. If time allows, you can drive into the valley, where the road follows the river between eroded red cliffs and small farming villages.
Driving: about 2 to 2.5 hours without stops.
Overnight: Boumalne Dades.
Today you move from mountains to desert. The first stop is Todra Gorge near Tinghir, where the road runs between tall limestone walls. Past Tinghir the villages thin out and the land opens into flat, stony ground, with palm oases here and there. The road passes through Erfoud before reaching Merzouga, at the edge of the Erg Chebbi, the best-known dune field in Morocco.
This is a long day, so how much of the afternoon is left in Merzouga depends on how long you stop along the way. Where you stay and any desert activities, such as a camel ride, are [CONFIRM WITH TOUR OPERATOR].
Driving: about 4 to 5 hours, not counting the stop at Todra Gorge.
Overnight: Merzouga area (night one of two).
There is no long drive today, and that is the point. The day belongs to the desert: the dunes in early light, a slow middle of the day, and the colors at sunset. In summer the middle of the day is very hot, so early morning and late afternoon are the best times to be out on the sand.
If you want to see more of the area, the village of Khamlia, known for its Gnawa music, and the market town of Rissani are both close by. [CONFIRM WITH TOUR OPERATOR: which activities, if any, are included on this day.]
Driving: none, apart from any short local transfers.
Overnight: Merzouga area (night two of two).
The full drive from Merzouga to Fes is too much for one day if you want any time to look around, so today covers the first part. You leave the dunes and drive through Erfoud and Errachidia, then follow the Ziz Valley, a long strip of palm groves running through dry hills. The road then climbs to the high plateau around Midelt, between the High Atlas and the Middle Atlas. The air is cooler there and the land is open and bare.
You reach Midelt with time to rest before the next morning's drive.
Driving: about 4 hours without stops.
Overnight: Midelt [CONFIRM WITH TOUR OPERATOR].
The road crosses the Middle Atlas and reaches Azrou, where the cedar forest begins. Barbary macaques are often seen near the road in this area. Ifrane, a hill town with steep-roofed, European-style houses, is a natural place for a break. From there the road descends to Fes. Depending on how long you stop, you arrive in the afternoon or early evening, with the rest of the day for settling in.
Driving: about 3.5 hours without stops.
Overnight: Fes.
This is the extra day in Fes, with no driving. Fes el-Bali, the old medina, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a dense network of narrow lanes that can feel confusing at first. A full day lets you cover its main areas at a steady pace. Typical stops include the Bou Inania Madrasa, the Chouara tanneries, the area around the Al-Qarawiyyin mosque and university, and the Blue Gate at the medina entrance. Fes el-Jdid, the newer royal quarter with its palace gates, and the old Jewish quarter, the Mellah, are also worth time.
Wear comfortable shoes. The lanes are mostly closed to cars, and some are steep. Many visitors use a local guide in the medina. Whether a guide and entrance fees are included is [CONFIRM WITH TOUR OPERATOR].
Driving: none.
Overnight: Fes.
The day starts in Fes and ends in Chefchaouen, in the Rif mountains. The road leaves the plains around Fes and winds into greener, hillier country. Chefchaouen's old town is known for its blue-painted walls, and it feels smaller and slower than Fes. Walk the lanes, sit in the main square, Plaza Uta el-Hammam, and look at the kasbah. Near sunset, the walk up to the Spanish Mosque on the hillside gives a view over the town.
Driving: about 4 hours without stops.
Overnight: Chefchaouen.
Leave Chefchaouen in the morning and drive to Rabat, Morocco's capital, on the Atlantic coast. Rabat feels different from the other cities on this route, with wide streets, sea air and a more relaxed pace. You should arrive with the afternoon still ahead, enough for the main sights: the Kasbah of the Udayas, a walled quarter above the river mouth; the unfinished Hassan Tower; and the neighboring Mausoleum of Mohammed V.
Driving: about 3.5 hours without stops.
Overnight: Rabat.
The last day is a drive south from Rabat to Marrakech, mostly by motorway. You reach Marrakech in the afternoon, and the tour ends there. If you have a flight or onward travel that evening, check the drop-off time and place when you book [CONFIRM WITH TOUR OPERATOR].
Driving: about 3.5 to 4 hours.
End of tour: Marrakech.

- 10-Day Morocco Tour from Marrakech
You can expect a loop that starts and ends in Marrakech and covers the Atlas Mountains, the Dades Valley, the Sahara dunes at Merzouga, Fes, Chefchaouen and Rabat. Some days are mostly driving, with stops along the way. Day 4 in the desert and Day 7 in Fes are for staying put and exploring. Hotels, meals and activities depend on the final arrangements, so confirm them with Limitless Morocco Tours before you book [CONFIRM WITH TOUR OPERATOR].
Yes. The itinerary has two nights in the Merzouga area, on Days 3 and 4, with no long drive in between. Merzouga is a long way from Marrakech, so a second night makes a Marrakech Sahara desert tour feel less rushed. The type of accommodation, such as a desert camp or a guesthouse, and any activities like a camel ride are [CONFIRM WITH TOUR OPERATOR].
Yes. You arrive in Fes on Day 6 and have all of Day 7 in the city, with no driving. That is enough time to cover the main parts of the old medina at a steady pace. Ask whether a local guide is included [CONFIRM WITH TOUR OPERATOR].
About 30 hours in total, spread over eight driving days. Day 2 is the shortest at around 2 to 2.5 hours. Days 6 and 9 take about 3.5 hours, Days 1, 5, 8 and 10 about 4 hours, and Day 3 is the longest at 4 to 5 hours. Days 4 and 7 have no long drives. These times are approximate and do not include stops, and mountain roads, weather and traffic can change them. Splitting the Merzouga to Fes drive over two days, with a night in Midelt, keeps any single day from running much past 5 hours.
Yes, both are on the route. Day 8 ends in Chefchaouen, which gives you the evening in its blue-painted old town. Day 9 continues to Rabat for the afternoon. Time in each place is shorter than in Fes. If you want longer in one of them, ask about changes, though more time there would mean less somewhere else.
Not within the main route. Essaouira is on the Atlantic coast, about 2.5 to 3 hours west of Marrakech, while this tour loops east and then north. Adding it inside the 10 days would mean dropping a destination or adding another long drive. A more practical option is a short extension after Day 10, with extra days in Essaouira. Ask Limitless Morocco Tours whether this is available and how it would be priced [CONFIRM WITH TOUR OPERATOR].
Limitless Morocco Tours can confirm the price and what it covers when you enquire [CONFIRM WITH TOUR OPERATOR]. Before you book, ask for a written list that covers the private vehicle and driver, accommodation, meals, the desert stay, any camel ride, local guides and entrance fees. The Included and excluded section above shows the items to check.
Send an enquiry through the Limitless Morocco Tours website. Include your travel dates, the number of people, and anything you would like to change, such as more time in Fes or a different pace. The team can then check availability and tell you which changes are possible [CONFIRM WITH TOUR OPERATOR: contact methods and whether route changes are offered].
