Embark on a 5-day desert tour from Fez to Marrakech to explore Morocco’s oldest imperial city, Fez, known for its rich history and tradition. Journey through diverse landscapes, from mountains and plateaus to palm trees and the vast desert dunes of Merzouga. Your adventure concludes in the vibrant red city, Marrakech.
DAY 1 : FES – IFRAN – AZROU – MIDELT - ERRACHIDIA – MERZOUGA
After breakfast, we’ll set out from Fes to explore the scenic High Atlas Mountains, starting with Ifrane, a tidy city nestled in the Middle Atlas. Our journey continues through the Cedar Forest, where we encounter the famous cedar forests home to endangered Barbary Apes. Passing through the rocky passage of Tizi Ntalghamt and Ziz Gorges, we reach the Tafilalt oases. Lunch in Errachidia offers a taste of Berber hospitality. Continuing through Erfoud and Rissani, we enjoy panoramic views of the Ziz Valley before arriving in Merzouga. Welcomed with mint tea in our riad, relax and soak in the desert ambiance as you witness one of the world’s best sunsets. Overnight in your riad.
DAY 2 : MERZOUGA AREA EXPLORATION - CAMEL TREK
Start your day early with a mesmerizing sunrise view before enjoying breakfast at the Riad, offering a glimpse into our daily life. Embark on a journey around the dunes, exploring the oasis of Merzouga and the nomadic Khamlia village. Visit Daar Gnawa to experience music and lifestyle and witness the beauty of Merzouga’s lake with its charming Flamingo bird. Travel towards Rissani and Sijilmassa, a historical city and the birthplace of many Moroccan kings, and stroll through the bustling souk. After a warm welcome with nomadic mint tea, ride a camel guided by an expert to discover the mysterious Erg Chebbi sand dunes. Unwind in nomad tents, enjoying a tranquil evening, witnessing a spectacular sunset over golden dunes, and relishing dinner by the campfire with optional Berber nomad music. Our camp is equipped with western amenities for your comfort.
DAY 3 : MERZOUGA – TODGHA GORGE – DADES VALLEY
Your camel guide will wake you early to witness an unforgettable sunrise over the Erg Chebbi sand dunes, a moment cherished by many visitors. After camel-trekking back to Merzouga village, enjoy the changing colors of the dunes. Following breakfast at the Riad, embark on a journey to Dades Valley, the ‘Road of a Thousand Kasbahs,’ passing through Rissani, Erfoud, and Tinghir. Marvel at the Todra Gorges, standing as Morocco’s highest and narrowest gorges, with walls reaching 300 meters. Drive through Dades Valley, witness sand castles, unique rock formations, and Berber village landscapes. Conclude your day watching the sunset on Tssidrine road and spend the night in our Hotel/Riad.
DAY 4 : DADS VALLEY - TODGHA VALLEY - SKOURA - OUARZAZAT
Following breakfast, our journey takes us through The Dades Valley, a captivating section of the renowned Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. We make a stop at Kalaa-Mgouna, known as “the rose city,” famed for its annual rose festival, offering opportunities to purchase rosewater and various local cosmetic products. Continuing to Skoura and the bird’s valley, notable for mud brick Kasbahs, especially the well-preserved Kasbah Ameridil. After some valley hiking, lunch awaits at a restaurant with panoramic valley views. The tour proceeds to Ouarzazate, dubbed “the Hollywood of Africa,” known for its appealing geography and landscapes that have attracted renowned movie producers. You may opt to visit the studios, housing props from movies like The Mummy and Gladiator, and explore the Hollywood backdrop of Kasbah Taourirt. Overnight at our riad.
DAY 5 : OUARZAZAT – AIT BENHADDOU - MARRAKECH
Starting the day in the desert with the changing colors is a refreshing experience; post-breakfast, we venture to the UNESCO-protected Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding palms. Continuing toward Marrakech via the Tizin’tichka pass, we pause to explore the town of Telouet and its ancient 17th-century Kasbah. The journey along the Tizin’tichka road reveals the great landscapes of Berber villages. In the afternoon in Marrakech, you’ll have free time to wander in Djemâa El-Fna, enjoy its charm, and savor drinks from rooftop restaurants. Overnight at our local riad in Marrakech.
